On February 27, 2024, a member reported on the forums that evidence of mice were found in the kitchen. This wiki page was created to help members be aware of where the traps have been set, how to reset traps if inclined to do so, who to contact if not inclined, and general tips for avoiding future mouse issues.

Six traps have been set in the kitchen area (March 3, 2024).

These locations were chosen based on mouse evidence (feces), and general likely mouse routes based on known behaviours.

If you find evidence of mice in other areas of Protospace, please comment in the forum thread and someone will come set more traps and add them to the location list

Locations of Traps

  1. On the counter - between the snack machine and the toaster oven
  2. On the floor - to the left of the fridge, along the wall
  3. On the floor - to the right of the snack machine, along the counter wall
  4. On top of the fridge - among the scattered objects (watch your fingers)
  5. On top of the snack machine - against the back wall, under the utility hole in the drywall
  6. On the floor - under the edge of the drink machine

How to Deal with a Triggered Trap

If you hear a trap snap, please find the affected trap and then do one of the following:

  1. Comment in the forum thread with which one so someone can come and clean it out and reset it
  2. Clean it out (if necessary) and reset it, then comment in the forum to let us know that a mouse was caught
  3. Dispose of the whole trap in the dumpster out back (if the carcass is particularly "messy"), then proceed with option 1 or 2

How to Reset a Triggered Trap

  1. Pry the spring loaded trap arm open so the mouse carcass can slide out onto a disposable towel or other container
  2. Dispose of the mouse carcass in the dumpster out back (please do not place interior garbage bins to rot)
  3. Refill the bait reservoir with peanut butter from the container in the fridge (it is clearly marked, please do not use someone's personal stash)
  4. Pull back the spring loaded trap arm and tilt the unit so that the yellow trigger plate is raised
  5. Place the trigger pin under the trigger plate lip and let the tension from the spring hold it in place (watch your fingers)
  6. Carefully place the trap down and slide into place (again, watch your fingers)
