What is Protospace?

Protospace is a Hackerspace, located in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. It's a physical location, whose purpose is to support the ongoing projects of its members. Those members include anyone interested in working on projects with the purpose of making things, breaking things, learning and teaching. Protospace is designed around collective ownership, not only of the space but of the tools, resources, and infrastructure within the space.

Meetings

We hold all-members meetings every Tuesday at 7pm, anyone is welcome to stop by and check us out.

International Lady Ada Day

On March 24th Protospace will be celebrating Lady Ada Lovelace Day. We will be hosting an open house with talks celebrating women in technology and science. More details for planning can be found LadyAdaDay.

Progress

Done 1. Come up with a name for the space
Done 2. Open a PO Box in the company's name, for sending official documents to (bills, bank statements, etc.)
Done 3. Register a Non-Profit Company under the name Calgary Protospace Ltd.
Done 4. Open a Business Checking account as the company, see Bank Account criteria
Done 5. Find a location, see Physical Location criteria
Done 6. Ensure cost of lease matches funds pledged by members
Done 7. Collect initial donations from members to pay for lease
Done 8. Sign lease, such that company owns the space
 ->  9. Acquire Furniture / Tools / Gagets for space, see Furniture Wishlist
 ->  10. Perform renovations and create "rooms" in the space
Done 11. Internet Access, see Internet Access Options
 ->  12. Commence Projects & Workshops in space

How do I join?

Membership is now invite only.

Our open nights are Tuesdays, starting at 7pm. Anyone is welcome to stop by.
